Digipack / We’re no sisters, no brothers, just goddamn freaks and whores - Jack Frost’s 8th studio album MELAINA CHOLE provides an expressive self-revelation on the status of the band in the 23rd year of its existence. It is almost impossible to pigeonhole the band into a specific genre, as it is completely hopeless to position Jack Frost in any existing music market. The reason is simple: Jack Frost are utterly unwilling (or unable?) to please all of the people all of the time. For more than two years, the Austrians have worked on the new album with as much lack of discipline as inconsistency. Finally, in full awareness of their own unreliability, the band decided to release the record on their own label Gloom Rock Enterprises. And lo and behold: sometimes a band has to break with all conventions to unfold its full potential at a point when it is no longer expected. MELAINA CHOLE is a bleak and no-holds-barred opus. Mercilessly unvarnished and unpretentious, with songs written in black bile. Mighty walls of guitars and fragile acoustic parts invent a world somewhere between Doom Metal, New Wave and Johnny Cash, in which singer Phred Phinster recounts stories of an unsuccessful life with indifference and almost amiable naivety. MELAINA CHOLE was produced by End of Green front man Michelle Darkness who digs Jack Frost’s music more than any other living person and who finally made the album what it is: the best Jack Frost record ever.
