Ancestors Blood - A Moment Of Clarity

Ancestors Blood was formed in winter 2002 in Finland to express their tribute to heathen beliefs and commemorate ancient times with magic and rituals. Right since their first demo was released the band has a strong following in the underground; their style is somewhat unusual for nowadays scene. It reminds of the old Scandinavian wave of the early 90s. Which band nowadays still plays this style really? Throughout the years, the band carefully created and found their own sound, yet still reminds of old Dimmu Borgir, Troll, Mactätus, Demonic, Covenant and other from that era here and there, where most bands nowadays go for a more modern and crowd-friendly sound and image. Now, four years after the last output, the new full length album is released. “A moment of clarity” features 8 tracks in total, sounding like a musical description or representation of a travel through the Finnish landscape. This is not simply a pagan black metal album; it's a highly atmospheric and diverse esoteric heathen journey. You have vast and epic sounds, as large as the landscape that houses a thousand lakes, alternated with the wayward aggression of a grim, snowy and impenetrable winter forest... A superb and well written mix of storming and energetic aggression and bombastic atmospheres, as the changes in the landscape presents and unfolds themselves, with long intros and outros, traditional for Ancestors Blood. The album has been recorded and mixed by the band themselves, giving it a more primordial and chaotic sound compared to the last outputs. It even goes back to the sound of their first demos, so expect a lot more primitive and rougher in sound, yet possibly their strongest songs ever. The “new” sound might need some getting used to, but I see this album as both a return to their roots production wise, as well as a display of the beauty of the branches of that very same tree.
